So wait...
Werner Klemperer, the guy who played Colonel Klink on Hogan's Heroes, was actually the son of Otto Klemperer, and also had a late career doing funny parts at the Met, like the Pasha in this 1980 Entfuhrung w/ Levine, Battle, etc. that's on right now? That is one kick ass piece of trivia.

AND Otto and Werner were cousins of the great World War II-era diarist Victor Klemperer.
Werner's daughter, Erika, is an excellent professional violinist. Heard her do an outstanding performance of the Beethoven "Spring" sonata some years back in Oxford, Ohio.
Well, Thomas Mann decamped to Los Angeles during the war, as did Brecht. And let's not forget Schoenberg, who has buildings named for him at both USC and UCLA, and who coached the Hollywood String Quartet in Verklarte Nacht. It's not like there was no connection between German culture and Hollywood.
And Werner (Col. Klink) is the Sprecher on the Ozawa/BSO Gurrelieder recording.
