Oh, this is so sad. He was great the one time I heard him. And Trebs mostly did Russian stuff in SF and was tremendous in that. Bel canto, WHY OH WHY?

Ruslan and Ludmilla; Betrothal in a Monastery; Tsar's Bride (which is sort of a bel canto opera, with a mad scene for the soprano! except that it is by Rimsky and was written around 1899. Trying to remember if there was any other Russian opera. She also did Musetta and Susannah.
